Many years ago, when I was studying for my BA degree, I became strangely obsessed with all things teapot. Several fractal fantasies later and I’d produced a series of works on this theme, making several computer designed earthenware teapots.
There was significant interest in the works at the time and in 1994 Newport Museum & Art Gallery bought one for their permanent collection. I’d never actually seen it in the gallery, but twenty years later we happened to be on holiday in Wales and I thought I’d take a look.
The Wait Collection is home to over three hundred and fifty domestic, novelty and craft teapots. It is one of only a few galleries in Britain where you can view the historical development of the teapot. It was great to see the piece again, along with the other work in the collection. Thanks Newport!
